If you have a puppy or younger dog, you are probably wondering what you can do dog training wise in order to make sure your dog behaves properly. After all, unruly dogs are a big reason why many pet owners have to give up their animals. You can’t have a dog that is constantly tearing up the furniture and doing toilet on the floor. If this accurately describes the situation you are in, then you need to start working on dog training techniques right away; and there are several dog training aids that can help you correct any bad behaviour.
One of the most popular dog training aids that many trainers recommend you get so your dogs can start to obey commands is through crate training. This form of dog training provides your pet with a sort of “safe space” in the form of a crate. The crate should be large enough to comfortably accommodate your dog, allowing them enough space to lie down while providing them with a small area for food and water. At first your dog may not want to go in the crate, but each time you put them in this area you should give them a treat to reinforce the positive behaviour. By employing this dog training technique and having this area for it to stay in when you are away from home, the dog will be less inclined to destroy your property and over time will become generally calmer and well behaved.
Another of the dog training aids that you can use is dog treats. This may sound like something simple, but the truth of the matter is that by using dog treats as a means of positive reinforcement on a regular basis, you can have a back up tool to use while dog training that will help to show them when you are pleased with their behaviour. Many times dogs are simply acting out as a way of seeking attention, and when you give them the attention they want when they do the right thing and take away that attention when they misbehave, you are rewarding the good behaviour. The only drawback to using treats in this way is that you cannot give treats out except to show the dog it has done something good, else you might confuse the dog.
There are plenty of other dog training aids you can employ when you are trying to train your dog. There are leashes, collars and harnesses which will help them learn to heal by not allowing them to pull as much. And there are also some dog collars that are supposed to help you correct bad barking behaviour, but this form of dog training is questionable because it causes the dog to receive a small electric shock each time it barks. Many trainers have said that this does not work well and its reliability as a dog training tool has to be questioned.
